Equipment management capabilities at Osaka Habikino Center the core of the Western Japan area

Q. Please tell us about the role of equipment management department within ASNOVA as a whole, and the characteristics of equipment center in the Western Japan area.

Shibata: The main role of equipment management department is to be a direct point of contact with customers through daily inventory management and equipment management. There are six centers in the Western Japan area: Kyotanabe, Kyoto; Habikino, Osaka; Izumi, Osaka; Miki, Hyogo; Kurashiki, Okayama; and Tosu, Saga. The main feature of the Western Japan area is that the work is generally done carefully. Even when looking at the figures for the equipment management situation, the margin of error is very small, which shows that the equipment is handled carefully.

Q. Please tell us about the characteristics of Osaka Habikino Center and the feedback you have received from customers.

Tsuji: Among the six equipment center in the Western Japan area, Osaka Habikino Center plays a major role. One of its features is its extremely high equipment management capabilities, centered on the speed and accuracy of inspection. The location of equipment center is also convenient, with good access from not only Osaka but also Nara, so I think it is popular with many customers.

Tsuji: And when it comes to equipment management, we are particular about the accuracy of our inventory. We quickly prepare for shipment in response to customer orders, and when returning equipment, we take responsibility for managing the type, quantity, and condition of the equipment we rented out. In a scaffolding rental service, experience, know-how, and teamwork are important to perform inventory management with high accuracy. If human error occurs, it will cause the entire ASNOVA to lose credibility, so all employees work hard to carry out careful inspection work responsibly.

Furthermore, one thing we value most is the awareness that we are in the service industry. We go about our daily work with the awareness that we are not dealing with equipment, but with the customers on the other side.

Shibata: We've heard from customers that our inventory management is very accurate. It's great to hear that, but as long as it's done by human hands, it's impossible to eliminate mistakes completely. We check thoroughly at the time of receipt, but if there is any oversight on ASNOVA's side, we make sure to inform you of the results of our investigation.

I believe that maintaining such a sincere attitude will help build long-term relationships of trust. I also believe that Mr. Tsuji's honest and straightforward personality has a major impact on the trust we have built with our customers and among our employees.

"Human Resource Development" to Support ASNOVA's Future

Q. Please tell us about the challenges ASNOVA faces in human resource development and the efforts it is making to address them.

Shibata: Since most of the work at equipment center is done outdoors, the first big issue is how to reduce the physical strain. Therefore, since last year, we have been promoting management education to make the employees working at equipment center feel motivated through the "Igokochi Project," a system in which employees themselves propose and create a rewarding work environment.

We are creating our own ideas to reduce the burden on the body by making small improvements such as "Center Checks" that allow us to grasp the management status of each equipment center, the introduction of air-conditioned clothing, and optimizing the layout. We are making improvements every day by listening to the voices of the field and reflecting the points noticed by center manager.

Shibata: We are also taking concrete steps to train center manager. While ASNOVA is opening new equipment center one after another, training center manager is also one of our challenges. In addition to the "Igokochi Project" mentioned earlier, we are creating an environment where those of us working at equipment center can take on challenges in a positive manner, such as unifying our education system through on-site training at Saitama Hasuda Center and standardizing the "quality" of center manager.

Q. I heard that Osaka Habikino Center performs thorough inspections, but please tell me more about it. Also, how do you improve customer satisfaction?

Tsuji: The accuracy of the inspection work is directly linked to the customer's trust, which ultimately leads to customer satisfaction with ASNOVA. For example, we carefully select returned equipment according to our own manual, and if any defective products are found, we take photos of the equipment in question and send them to the customer along with the invoice. I always look at all the photos that are sent, so I think that maintaining transparency while building trust also leads to customer satisfaction.

For this reason, we place importance on practical education in terms of employee human resource development. We have employees gain knowledge by experiencing various jobs as early as possible, and we convey the importance of actual experience. We provide careful support even for jobs that are new to us, and encourage employees to take on challenges without fear of failure.

Q. Please tell us about the type of talent ASNOVA aims to develop and the environment it provides for developing such talent.

Shibata: Since going public, ASNOVA has been a fast-growing company, developing new businesses one after another. In line with this growth trend, I want to develop human resources who are proactive in everything they do.
From the perspective of area manager, I think it is important to share information about each area with each center manager and build an open relationship where center manager can communicate it to the whole team. By doing so, the company's direction and on-site information can be constantly shared, and each individual can understand their own role. As a result, I hope that the growth of individuals will be directly linked to the growth of the company.

Tsuji: With more and more employees on-site who are positive, we need to be proactive and take on new challenges. This will invigorate the center and lead to better results. As center manager, I think it's important to never be negative and to create an environment where employees at equipment center can always take on new challenges.

Q.What role will Osaka Habikino Center play for the company?

Shibata: As the main center in the Western Japan area, I want to play a role that contributes to the company. Mr. Tsuji's honest attitude is the strength of Osaka Habikino Center. As area manager, I would like to train as many center manager candidates as possible who are proactive and can take on new challenges, and aim to produce human resources who can lead the entire center.

Tsuji: I want to do my best to live up to the expectations of Mr. Shibata area manager. I want to make the Osaka Habikino Center a company-wide leader. I would like to strive to make the Osaka Habikino Center a model case for all equipment centers, not only by improving the system and actual work, but also by comprehensively addressing the issues of work attitude and human qualities.
