A new challenge for center manager. Career development made possible through "ASNOVA Recurrent"

ASNOVA has introduced the "ASNOVA Recurrent" system, which supports employees with the opportunity to re-learn by attending a vocational school or graduate school of their choice. The aim is to develop candidates for the next generation of executives, revitalize the organization through human resource development, and foster employees' motivation for career development and self-development.
We spoke to Mr. Takeya Ogawa, Center Manager Chiba Yotsukaido Center, who took advantage of this system to begin a new challenge in April 2024, about the background to his decision to resume his studies, the balance between work and family, and the career he wants to achieve through "ASNOVA Recurrent."

Takeya Ogawa
Center Manager, Chiba Yotsukaido Center, Equipment Management Department ASNOVA Co., Ltd. He joined ASNOVA Co., Ltd. in 2019 and, as center manager of Chiba Yotsukaido Center, is involved in the overall operations of the center, including managing scaffolding equipment.

As a parent and as center manager, I want my children to be interested in politics and economics.

Q. What made you decide to use "ASNOVA Recurrent"?

Ogawa: Ever since the "ASNOVA Recurrent" program started, I had been thinking, "I want to try it someday," but I wasn't sure what I wanted to study. I was also worried about whether I would be able to find time to study while working as center manager, and I was worried that I would be putting a burden on my family since my children were still small, so I was hesitant to take the plunge.

However, as my children grew up, I began to wonder, "What will the world be like when they grow up in the future?" In addition, as it is predicted that various tasks and processes will be digitized or replaced by AI in the future, I felt more and more strongly that "it is important for me, as center manager, to understand social changes and have the knowledge to respond to them."

Therefore, in order to adapt to social changes and prepare for an unpredictable future, I decided to take advantage of the system with the aim of studying politics and economics.

Q: What kind of life are you living now?

Ogawa: I will be enrolled in the correspondence university "Cyber University" from April 2024, and am currently starting to learn basic knowledge such as bookkeeping, business management, management, and IT literacy. Classes are mainly recorded lectures that are watched on a computer, and some students even participate in online debates with other students.

My daily schedule involves working at equipment center until 5pm, then going home to have dinner with my family, chat, and play with my children. Then, from 9pm when my children go to bed, I take two 70-minute classes before going to bed and preparing for work the next day. Sometimes I find this new lifestyle a little difficult, but when I think, "I used to waste this time idly," I feel that I am very fulfilled now.

Q. Have you noticed any changes around you since you started studying using "ASNOVA Recurrent"?

Ogawa: ASNOVA Recurrent is a company system, and I hope that what I learn will eventually contribute to the growth of the company, but I am studying of my own volition. In that sense, I don't want to make the employees working at equipment center feel uncomfortable because of my studies, and I certainly shouldn't neglect my work because I have assignments for classes.

I believe that this system has allowed me to take on new challenges, and I hope that other employees will also learn through "ASNOVA Recurrent." However, when considering the balance between work, family, and private life, it is important to manage your health and time, so rather than immediately getting everyone involved, I would be happy if they would naturally develop an awareness of learning by seeing me learning.

This will improve the quality of the common language shared within equipment center. As center manager, I would like to share what I've learned through everyday conversation so that people can apply social issues to themselves.

Continuing to take on new challenges, we aim to make the scaffolding industry a "dream job."

Q. How do you balance your family and work?

Ogawa: First of all, regarding time with family, I believe that studying while working is only possible with the understanding of your family, so I try to continue doing things as I have done in the past, such as making sure that the burden is not placed on my wife alone and making sure that I make time to talk and play with our children.

As for work, I used to be able to finish work that I couldn't finish by working a little overtime, but now I try to finish my work within the set working hours so that I don't have to work overtime in the first place. Otherwise I won't have time to study. I think I've gotten better at managing my time than ever before.

Q. What are your future goals?

Ogawa: During my four years at the university, I plan to thoroughly study politics, economics, management, and other subjects, and eventually I hope to launch new businesses one after another within the company. As times change, so do the ways of working. I hope to enjoy these changes, revitalize the company by sharing ideas, and expand the scope of our business.

Another goal is to consider second careers for employees. As society ages and AI develops, the roles and occupations required will likely change. Even in such times, I believe it is my role to provide a place where everyone can thrive.

And beyond that, I would like to dispel the "negative image" that is rooted in the scaffolding industry. By taking the initiative and creating a company where employees can work with enthusiasm, ASNOVA would like to convey that this job and industry is full of dreams. And I hope that one day it will become a job that everyone aspires to.
