"Purpose" is the standard of decision-making and motivation for each employee
The venue was Global Gate, where ASNOVA's headquarters are located.
After chatting for a while, General Manager Administration Department Kato made an opening statement, and President Ueda talked about the background to the establishment of "Purpose."
It all began with the adoption of the SDGs by the United Nations in 2015.
These Sustainable Development Goals have become a major opportunity to reexamine social and corporate activities around the world.
In addition, as we enter an era of uncertainty known as "VUCA," companies must once again clarify their raison d'être.
Ueda: "If the values of the entire organization are not unified, decision-making will take time and mistakes will be made.
Purpose is, so to speak, the standard of judgment and motivation for such situations.
It shows the most fundamental purpose and guidance of why a company or organization exists and why you work."
As President Ueda said, "purpose" is different from what is commonly called a "management philosophy."
A "management philosophy" is something that strongly reflects a company's perspective on how to run the company, whereas
"Purpose" is based on a strong awareness of connections to society, the environment, and the local economy.
So why did ASNOVA establish its purpose?
President Ueda cited three reasons behind this.
Ueda: The first was that we wanted to redefine the existence of ASNOVA from the point of rediscovering and reaffirming the intrinsic value of scaffolding itself.
The second is that no matter what new business we start, we want to build a solid foundation.
And the third is to use this as an opportunity to gain recognition and sympathy from stakeholders and to increase the number of our allies.
With these three reasons as a backdrop, about 10 people from each department gathered together and held multiple meetings over the course of several months to come up with this policy."
The purpose that was born in this way is to "Create your places of tomorrow with the power of kasetsu.'"
We are a group of people who were born and raised in different environments, have different personalities, and have different standards for making decisions when the time comes.
If we are not conscious of our purpose, individuals will go in whatever direction they like, as if we were in a lawless area with no rules, morals, or traffic lights.
When individuals are unsure of what to do, they make their decision based on this "purpose."
ASNOVA wants to be that kind of group.
